Amy Shorter, M.A. LPC MHSP

I am a fully licensed therapist working with clients 18 years and up. I am passionate about helping individuals seek growth and healing. I work collaboratively with clients to assess their goals of treatment. Making the decision to seek counseling takes courage and commitment. I am honored to assist you on your journey by providing a relationship based on trust and non-judgement. My therapy style is supportive and encouraging and I use therapeutic approaches that focus on how our thoughts affect our emotions and behaviors. I assist clients with emotional regulation, effective communication, establishing healthy boundaries, implementing coping skills, and relationship improvement.

My undergraduate degree is in Communications from the University of Tennessee and my graduate degree is in Mental Health Counseling from Huntington University. In my leisure time I enjoy outdoor activities, traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. My own life experiences have contributed to my compassion and empathy for clients desiring change and growth. My counseling is rooted in a Christian perspective and I am honored to work with clients seeking a deeper faith or clients that are searching for purpose and meaning. My counseling philosophy is an integrated approach of evidence-based practice and a Christian worldview. I do however only bring faith-based approaches into sessions if the client desires.

My clinical experience includes:

6 years in private practice.

Group work at an addictions IOP facility/Individual outpatient counseling at community mental health facility.

Public and private school-based counseling/group and individual work.

The modalities I use include:

Attachment-Based, Christian Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused.
